A.P.E. – Automated Productivity Evaluation

In A.P.E., you step into the not-so-voluntary shoes of a freshly hired intern—employed by none other than a hyperactive, cigar-chewing monkey who just happens to be your CEO. Your mission? Sort whatever he throws at you. No questions asked. Just nod, smile, and sort. Welcome to the corporate jungle.

The game begins in a clean, functional menu. Here, you’ll find the credits—highlighting the various sources of sounds and music used throughout the game—as well as the classic “Exit” and “Start” buttons. The moment you hit start, you’re thrown into your new reality: an internship with A.P.E, a company that believes your worth is measurable—literally.

Gameplay switches between two core states: interacting with your beloved CEO, and completing your sorting tasks under immense pressure (and equally immense judgment). Before each task, the monkey will personally brief you—usually with exaggerated enthusiasm and increasingly nonsensical logic—on what you’re expected to do. His words are law. Your compliance is assumed.

There are four main object types you’ll encounter during your internship:

  • Currencies
  • Names
  • Cryptocurrencies
  • Humans

Each type appears under one of two modes:

  • Category Mode
  • List Mode

Category Mode is the simpler of the two. One object appears at the center of the screen, and your job is to place it into the correct category, chosen from numbers of labels at the bottom.

List Mode, on the other hand, is designed to simulate real workplace suffering. You’ll be shown several objects, and it’s your job to drag them into a numerical or alphabetical order—depending on the context. Each container is labeled with a position number. Place the correct object into each slot. Sounds easy, right? It’s not.

Let’s break down each object type:

  • Currency appears in Category Mode. You’re shown a currency (like a dollar bill), and must pick its corresponding name from the many options.
  • Names are used in List Mode. You’re given a random selection of human names and must sort them alphabetically.
  • Crypto is also in List Mode, but with a twist: every coin shown has a value, but that value is hidden behind a multiplier. On the right side of the screen, you’ll find a reference list of each coin and its multiplier. Quick math and panic will help you survive.
  • Humans, perhaps the most ethically questionable category, appear in Category Mode. You’ll judge people based on their appearance, names, and vague data to determine what kind of human they are. Just like a real corporate system!™

A.P.E. is a satirical take on modern productivity, workplace gamification, and the psychological absurdity of being expected to smile while drowning in spreadsheets. It's fast-paced, judgmental, and absolutely banana-approved. Just remember: if you fail, it’s probably your fault. A.P.E believes in accountability—yours, not theirs.
